WP 32 Cost/benefit data collection and modelling Meeting minutes: 14th June 2012

Attendees: David Giaretta (STFC), Sabine Schrimpf (DNB), Karlheinz Schmitt (DNB), Patricia Herterich (CERN), Sharon McMeekin (DPC), Kirnn Kaur (BL)

Agenda:

WP Risk Register

  • WP risks were set out

Risk Mitigation
It may prove impossible to find an appropriate method for quantifying costs to set against benefits REDUCE IMPACT Provide qualitative/ comparative costs e.g. compared to the general e-science infrastructure
Ensure that WP32 and WP36 work in close collaboration
Effort as stated in the DoW may not be committed in practice At GA see if distribution of effort can be agreed. Partners not participating to be contacted
Creation of a cost model unachievable A single model may not cover all scenarios, could provide a number
Assessment of models may be difficult Contact those who set up the model for further clarity
Collection of cost model data may take longer than envisaged Start the process of collection earlier than planned
Providers of data may find it sensitive to provide data Ensure data is anonymised
Mapping of models may be too complicated Look at a process model. Try to align to OAIS plus staff costs (ISO16363)
Others ???

  • Post meeting note: Reviewed with Project Risk Register and first entry added

AHM presentation

  • Draft presentation reviewed - see under attachments on previous page
  • Important point to consider is the BENEFITS element of this WP. We need to be able to offer options for the future using the cost models. To be reviewed further [ALL]

Cost model analysis template

  • Template to be reviewed by all [ALL]
  • Agreed to map cost parameters to OAIS model plus costs (ISO 16363)
  • Word version to be provided with a separate table for the mapping exercise [KK]

Cost data collection

  • It was agreed that this exercise would be time consuming and bringing forward this activity may help
  • An email is to be sent to all consortium partners in order to start the request for cost data. Draft email to be sent all participants for comment [KK]
