Outcome of review meeting (13 February)

Simon thanked Sabine for hosting the meeting at the DNB and making sure the organisation all went smoothly. There are notes taken by some of those present on the wiki at ApanReview3Notes. We are now awaiting the formal review report. Simon gave a brief summary; the most important outcome is the overall "good" assessment. All but two deliverables were accepted, though some with a requirement for small modifications.

David noted that, responding to the review comment that some of the deliverables contain "real gold", though it is buried, we need to extract the recommendations and publicise them. Kirnn observed that they could be included in the training material.

Andreas asked about the reception of WP13. The reviewer Daniel Teruggi did express satisfaction briefly, and D13.2 was accepted.

Year 3 reporting procedure

The deadline for submitting the Form Cs and Periodic Report is the end of February. Please enter and finalise the Form Cs online if not already done!

The PO has requested some revisions to the draft Periodic Report that was submitted for the review. SImon will be taking care of this but might need input from WP leaders on deviations from plan.

In future everyone should continue to report their person-months per WP either in the management website or quarterly, according to a template to be circulated.

Any issues concerning Streams

Stream 1 Integration (WP11, WP13, WP16)

David explained that Stream 1 is now focussing on setting up the VCoE. The soft launch will take place at a joint workshop with EUDAT at the RDA meeting in Dublin on 25 March. This will showcase what we have to offer. Training material is needed—not all for the soft launch, but we will need "training pills" and examples of modules for a full training course.

Simon confirmed that the cooperation agreement with Presto4U has been signed by both parties.

Stream 2 Technical research (WP22)

Emanuele Bellini noted that WP22 was well received at the review, and thanked the contributing partners. WP22 has shown how interoperability can help persistent identifier domains in providing added value services.

David raised a comment at the review that persistent identifiers are mostly a "political" issue, so the question is what agreements do we have, and what happens to any software produced after the end of the project. Emanuele replied that relationships with the major actors are needed, and some contacts have been made by Maurizio. The pid service could become an asset of the VCoE, but would need re-engineering first as it is just a demonstrator. David observed that there is effort available in SCIDIP and it would be extremely valuable to have access to the software now rather than wait until the end of the project. This will be followed up offline.

Stream 3 Non-technical research

Sabine noted that WP31 and WP35 formally complete at the end of February. David pointed out that although the WPs are formally finished, further work continues in WP11.

Stream 4 Spreading excellence (WP4*)

Manuela reported that the next webinar, on DRM, will take place at 14:00 on 10 March, and asked for the invitation to be forwarded to relevant lists.

Further updates of the website are planned.

Daria said that the workshop proposal to the LIBER conference will be accepted (though this is not official yet and should not be publicised). She is working on a proposal for a workshop for TPDL in London in September, jointly with the SCAPE project.

On training, Sharon reported that we need to establish some momentum behind the creation of content. She will be arranging a meeting to review plans for the year to achieve what is needed. Planning for the summer school is also under way.

On WP42, Holger reported that they are currently discussing the structure of D42.2 and planning for Y4 based on that.

In addition to the joint workshop with EUDAT on 25 March at the RDA workshop in Dublin, and the joint workshop with EGI 4-6 March in Amsterdam, there are two important events later in the year:

  • Joint workshop with EUDAT on 24 Sept at RDA 4th Plenary meeting in Amsterdam
  • APA Conference and hard launch of the VCoE 22-23 October in Brussels
