Report on third review

The report on the third review and the PO's covering letter were received on Monday and are available on the wiki. The overall assessment is "good progress", which is gratifying, and Simon thanked the project partners for their effort to achieve this result.

As well assessing particular deliverables, the report focusses on the common vision and VCoE, noting that "significant progress" has been made though there is still "substantial work needed". There is a perceived weaknesses in some of the Stream 4 activities.

The letter from the PO is key, as it requires a formal response. Four deliverables are not (yet) accepted. We are encouraged to take account of the work of the 4C project.

Plan for rejected deliverables

  • D21.1: Simon will complete the missing information, possibly asking other partners for help, and resubmit by 5th May as requested.
  • D23.2: Diana will provide a conclusion giving a synthesis of the lessons learnt, and resubmit by 5th May as requested. Kirnn offered her assistance.
  • D43.2: expanding the content of the training portal is the key here, with the deliverable to be resubmitted by 1 June describing what more has been done. Sharon is going to organise a meeting to discuss this next week.
  • D14.1: after discussion with Tessella, we will not attempt to revise this deliverable again.

Any issues concerning Streams

Stream 1 Integration (WP11, WP13, WP16)

Simon briefly reported on the soft launch event that took place in association with the Research Data Alliance meeting in Dublin last week. The event was a joint APARSEN-DPHEP-EUDAT-SCIDIP event chaired by Juan Bicarregui (STFC). David gave an overview of the VCoE including its strengths and distinctive features. Ruben talked about delivering value: seeing digital preservation as an "opportunity multiplier", not a "problem solver". Informal feedback on the event was positive.

Stream 2 Technical research (WP22)

WP22 was highlighted by the reviewers for its impact - so congratulations to Maurizio and the whole WP22 team!

(Stream 3 Non-technical research - no active WPs)

No report

Stream 4 Spreading excellence (WP4n)

There will be an APARSEN webinar on Monday 14th April 14:00 CET on storage solutions. There are some external speakers as well as APARSENers. Everyone is encouraged to publicise the webinar and attend themselves if they can.

Manuela reminded WP leaders of the action to fill in the spreadsheet she circulated to summarise the submitted deliverables. This will help to present our results more concisely - as suggested by the reviewers.

Gerald asked about those deliverables that will be issued in interim versions - specifically those of WP13. In that case it will be sufficient to report only on the final deliverable, as that will represent the last word from the WP.
