2.1.1: some material exists: like the course on authenticity or the lesson on policy. Have these materials to be replaced? On which basis? By whom? Everything has to be developed in English?

  • DG: I think the assumption is that we develop training materials in ENglish and then in line with the proposals made we make translations where appropriate

2.1.2. how to define the responsibilities when more partners are involved?

  • DG: We certainly have to work on the assumption that specific individuals will not necessarily be available whenever the courses needed - hence the creation of training materials derived from APARSEN work

2.4.1. Not easy to understand how consultancy can be made available. Again, at national level?

  • DG: This depends on where the demand is. My assumption is that there will be a demand at national level and the best organisation to provide that advice will do it.

3. Infrastructure: is this effort to be done only for APA? If a partner has no resource to enter APA but can contribute to a common effort, is it possible to take into account this possibility?

  • DG: This is part of the business plan and needs further discussion. The assumption at the moment is that members will provide the training etc

7.1. with reference to the use of time to spend, it has to be taken into account the effort already planned by partners, for instance the training course organized by CINI at national level (40 years for Ministru for cultural heritage and University students, material created in Italian and to be presented as e-learning)

  • DG: The aim of the document is to provide coherence. Just as in year 1, 2 and 3 we all had to work on deliverables, in year 4 the deliverable is essentially the sustainability of the VCoE. Just as in years 1,2 and 3 people did not work only on deliverables, it seems sensible to expect other things to go on under the spreading excellence heading. I assume that the training course will not take up all the CINI effort, and also that the material may be of use elsewhere.

Annex: authenticity and policy: I have done two pills; are they included in the list? are they required to be assessed? on which basis?

  • DG: The annex needs to be reviewed and clarified - the distinction between free (the "pills") and paid-for material was not made clear enough. We clearly must make full use of what has already been created.

- Why is the WP25 mentioned as a source for the Designated Communities module? This concept from the OAIS model has not been specifically investigated in the two deliverables of the WP.

  • DG: I think it has some results from WP25 are relevant, together in work from SCIDIP-ES and CASPAR - which FORTH know very well

- A clear differentiation between the training offers should be included. We have four different kinds of offers: 1) face-to-face one day courses 2) face-to-face two-days courses 3) online courses and 4) training pills It is important to identify the relationships between them, the target audience, the differences, the fruition modalities, costs...

  • DG: Yes that needs to be clarified. The problem was that I had been trying for many months to get the "pills" done but only a few had been created, so it needed some re-thinking. I did have quite a few points of guidenance - goals, benefits for participants, etc, in the "pills" spreadsheet. Parts of that were used in the Annex, but it needs to be expanded. Costs are an important factor which I hope the market research will help with.

- page 8: it is stated that "an on-line course would be the equivalent of a one day course with some additional evaluation material". I'm not sure to understand this sentence. Does this mean that an online course has the same content of a one day face-to-face course? or the equivalence is just in terms of the amount of content? Which kinds of evaluation material do you mean?

  • DG: The on-line course referred to is what would be in the Globit OLTP. We looked at some examples and they had some pre-course and post-course assessment tests. I look to Globit for some examples/guidance. We may need the same thing also for the face-to-face courses. By same content I meant that we could (would have to) re-use the PPT slides and any example material.

- certification of participation is another aspect to take into account when designing courses (both face-to-face and online)

  • DG: Yes - some sort of certificate.

- I don't see any explicit reference to the WP22 Interoperability framework and demonstrator as part of the training offering. (WP22 is mentioned as source of the Discoverability module but the interoperability framework and the demonstrator have a broader aim than discoverability). I think this should be explicitly mentioned since it is one of the tangible results of the APARSEN project and the approach has been recognized as very sound by the reviewers. Currently the demonstrator can not be considered a proper service for enabling PID interoperability but for sure can be used for training purposes to rise awareness about the importance of addressing the PID interoperability issue and to find common solutions for developing future services for different communities. Therefore, I would suggest to add a module named "Interoperability of Persistent Identifier Systems"

  • DG: I must confess I was not sure what to put - will the demonstrator work after the end of the project? I thought much of the work was done by the PID suppliers and I don't know what arrangements are in place. Please feel free to suggest some text and we'll see what the response is.

- As part of the WP25 activities, a Web application called Epimenides has been developed to check the performability of a task over an uploaded digital object. Maybe a specific module or a training pill could be dedicated to this result, since we have very few examples of technical implementation within the project.

  • DG: We need to see what the sustainability of that software is.

- The work of WP27 appears as part of the Store whaile the results possition it as a non-functional proprty of the system or service

  • DG: There is some mention of storage in D27.1, which I assume is relevant.
