This meeting was the first of a planned weekly series to run at least until the All Hands Meeting in December. A draft of D11.3 "Report on a common vision of digital preservation: progress to Year 3" has been produced, using the inputs received from WP leaders and others, and sent to Manuela Speiser at the end of September as she requested. This is available on the wiki at

There are now two priorities:

  • refinement of the deliverable into the form for submission at M36
  • production of a "vision statement" suitable for external distribution for reactions and feedback

David explained that the reason for having the common vision in the DoW was to provide consistency and coherence across the work done in APARSEN, with a view to the VCoE. The vision includes the glossary and also how different elements tie together. We now need something concise and clear to put out to the world, though it should not just be another high-level "Ten Principles" type of declaration. We should abstract our important statements to catch attention.

So WP leaders should look at the current draft D11.3 and think about its strengths and weaknesses. Meanwhile the PMB will check contributions from WPs and identify any that need further amplification.

Kirnn asked about the "Tiger Teams" or Working Groups that were set up earlier to focus on the vision and VCoE. With the current state of the vision document, it is appropriate to open the process to all WP leaders, with the PMB in a supervisory role. David commented that it would be useful to say we have captured the basics in the document and are adding details, so we can use it in the sustainability brochure and plans for training.

Concerning the VCoE, there was a series of face-to-face workshops, the most recent being at Heathrow airport in June, and there are still some ongoing actions from this. A draft of the business plan exists, which is being updated by Ruben Riestra and others.
