This module should critically discuss a number of examples and the implication of those various options. The module should give a number of examples of designated community definitions. Increasing value Examples of ways in which value has been increased, e.g. by combining with other data from other disciplines. Participants should be in a position to think of how their holdings could be increased in value. The participant will be able to identify threats which he/she may not yet have thought about. The module should show the various threats and the depth of agreement across disciplines. Transform to another format The challenges that must be addressed here range from the the circumstances under which transformation may be a sensible option to the choice of what to transform into to the practical issues of performing the transformation. After this unit the participant should be able to discuss the pros and cons of a variety of transformation strategies. The module should contain at least one example of a rendered object e.g. an image and also a piece of scientific data. Value proposition This module provides examples of what the real (or potential) value has been assigned to digitally encoded information to justify its preservation. This will include cultural value, commercial value, scientific value and replacement value.
